Wonderful Antique Postcard Album York Interest, Streets, Trains, Etc. C. 160
A very alluring postcard album of York city centre and environs. Housed in red 4to album. There is a very good mix of used and unused, posted and unposted contents here, with the earliest posted being circa 1905.

Some examples of the contents include; a beautiful Stewart and Woolf art nouveau 1904 postcard of St. Mary's Abbey, Theatre York's production of'General Post', circa 1930; Adam's Hydraulics dated 1934; several from Valentine's Series dated 1906; Delittle, Fenwick and Co; Silvatype Royal York Series by Arthur and Co, York; Frith's Real Photo Series; many from Photocrom, London and Tunbridge Wells incl. Sepiatone Series; Rapco, London; Reliable Series from 1906 or earlier, and many others.

The curator has tried to show the early c20th evolution of York's streets, often with two, three, or four postcards showcasing the same street. There is a nice aerial shot of Walmgate Bat and the City Wallsby Photochrom and Aircraft Manufacturing c. 1910, some interesting ones of York Merchant Adventurers Hall circa 1905, and most of the famous streets and bars of York. Several of trains, one the derailed train Eskdale Express, and five others of trains, undated repros by York Railway (printed by Matthews, York). As a York resident, it is a thoroughly fascinating collection.

The curator has also written in light pencil to a few relating to what they reference. For instance, to one is Boer War. Condition is generally good to very good, some usual rounding of corners, light creases to some, many unposted ones better than very good. I do not profess to be a postcard expert and have used my limited knowledge to describe this album. I'm more than happy to provide more photos, and will endeavour to answer any questions.
