E. M. Blakey (Lee-on-Solent) orig. Archive 107 glass and film postcard NEGATIVES

An original archive of glass and film negatives for postcards. These were all produced by the Lee-on -Solent photographer E. Blakey, whose studio was in the High Street. There are 107 negatives in total, most of which have one developed contact print.

Just over half of them (58) are glass negatives. The rest are film negatives which produce contact-print size postcards.

The majority of the scenes are of Lee-on-Solent, but there are a few of Stubbington too, and one of Gosport. They are numbered 1-111 in plastic bags. There are a few numbers missing, mostly one in the 60s. There were never with this archive, which remains exactly as it was when I first got it many years ago. Presumably they got broken, or just got mislaid. There are scenes around the pier, the old tower, and the main streets in Lee, the churches, and beach, the library, and buildings. For someone young enough unlike me! This would be a super local archive to own long term to print postcards, or print local greetings cards, or blow up into mounted photos.

I imagine there will now be modern scanning methods which would enable one to do this without having to use a darkroom. T want to risk posting this archive, so it would need to be collected by arrangment from Portsmouth. Anyone interested, but who would like to examine it more closely, is also welcome to come to Portsmouth by arrangement to do so. See all photos above for the complete archive.
