S son, Conrad, was a police officer in Big Spring, Texas (for a little while). CONDITION: This RPPC has NOT been postmarked or used and has no writing on the back. Approximate size is 3 3/8" X 5 1/2". PLEASE SEE MY OTHER REAL PHOTO POST CARDS THAT ARE FOR SALE. Once, around 1994, I visited the once Stamford home of C.
His son (Conrad), my brother in law's Grandfather, lived in the house until he passed away in 1988. At that time, in the backyard, the saddle shop was still standing when I visited. The backyard saddle shop took place AFTER the downtown saddle shop.
I think the backyard saddle shop has been torn down. When my brother in law went to his Grandfather's funeral circa 1988, all of the saddle making hand tools and hand operated machinery were still in the little backyard saddle shop. He told me there were hundreds of paper templates of saddles in a giant pile on a shelf that were thrown away. 22, 1872 Booneville Logan County Arkansas, USA.
10, 1955 Big Spring Howard County Texas, USA. He Came to Wichita Falls, Texas in 1891 where he worked on several ranches. In 1901 he started making saddles for the Penn-Welch Saddle Shop in Stamford. He started his own saddle business in about 1903 and married Miss Alice Lalla Hunter Nov 27th 1904 in Anson. He closed his hardware business in 1919 but continued making and repairing saddles from his home shop through 1938 even though there was little profit to be made due to modern transportation. He is buried in the family plot with his wife Lalla and son Conrad. Just to the East of the Thomas & Frances Tarlton Markers. The plot is at the far East end of the cemetery next to the fence.
